I am the Reading Interventionist at Alice King. I have a passion for learning about how reading is acquired and teaching children how to read and specialize in using the foundational skills of reading to develop the processors in the brain necessary to read. I am a proud graduate of the University of New Mexico and am a National Board Certified teacher in the area of Literacy/Language Arts. I have held my National Board Certification for 10 years and I just renewed it last year. I have endorsements in Reading and Teaching English as a Second Language and have been trained in Guided Language Acquisition Development, which is used in developing vocabulary and reading in English Language Learners. I work with students in grades K-3 to develop the foundational reading skills (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension) in order to help children reach reading proficiency and develop a love of reading. I have 14 years of experience as an educator; however, I have spent the majority of my time as a reading interventionist. I have also taught Kindergarten, 3rd grade, 4th grade, and served as an Instructional and Reading Coach. I am a native of New Mexico and my hobbies include music, cooking, hiking, mountain biking, running and spending time with my husband and family.
